|Surjer Hashi Network Overview|
The Surjer Hashi/Smiling Sun healthcare network is the largest NGO primary health care provider in Bangladesh. It includes around 400 static clinics, over 10,000 satellite clinic sites and nearly 8,000 community-based workers managed by 25 local NGOs throughout the country. The network serves a catchment population of approximately 26 million people with a focus on the poor and underserved. In the past one year the network provided over 40 million primary health care and family planning service contacts throughout Bangladesh.
The SH/SS network is supported financially by USAID and DFID in order to ensure access to essential services for the poor and under-served. Technical support for service delivery is currently provided by the USAID-DFID funded NGO Health Service Delivery Project (NHSDP) which is managed by Pathfinder International and includes CARE Bangladesh and Bangladesh Center for Communications Programs (BCCP).
In order to strengthen the SH/SS network and to create a stronger platform for contributing to Universal Health Coverage in Bangladesh, the Surjer Hashi/Smiling Sun Healthcare Company is being established and registered in Bangladesh as a company limited by guarantee (a not-for-profit company).
