Happy canada day

On July 1st, everyone who considers Canada to be their home and homeland celebrates Canada Day. The day honors the 1867 Constitution Act, which merged three territories into the single nation of Canada. That’s right, Canada’s 150th birthday was celebrated in 2017!

Canada Day 2022

In 2022, Canada Day will be celebrated on July 1st.

In 2022, Canada Day falls on a Friday, making the first weekend of July a long weekend. There is no ambiguity. Despite the fact that Canada Day was shifted from Sunday to July 2nd, most celebrations still took place on Sunday, July 1st.

 History of Canada Day

On June 20th, 1868, Governor-General Lord Monck issued a proclamation inviting all of Her Majesty’s loving subjects across Canada to join in the commemoration of the formation of the British North American provinces into a federation under the name of Canada on July 1st, 1867, with the passage of the North American Act of 1867. On this day, Canada’s four colonies unified, marking a truly watershed moment in the country’s history.

The holiday of July 1st, known as Dominion Day, was created by statute in 1879.

Except for the naming of new structures on the 50th and 60th anniversaries, there is little or no trace of any organized events after this initial anniversary. It wasn’t until 1917 that larger-scale and more lavish celebrations became popular.

The government has organized an annual commemoration of Canada’s national day since 1958, with the Secretary of State of Canada in charge of the planning. The schedule included a Trooping the Colours ceremony on Parliament Hill’s lawn in the afternoon, a sunset ceremony in the evening, and a mass band concert and fireworks display in the evening. In 1968, the format was revised to include multicultural and professional concerts.

In 1980, the federal government created a new formula in which it financed the establishment of municipal festivals across the country.

“Seed money” was distributed in hundreds of small communities to encourage popular and amateur activities organized by volunteer groups. Fireworks displays were held in 15 major cities across the country for the 1981 events, which followed a similar pattern.

On October 27, 1982, July 1st, previously known as “Dominion Day,” became “Canada Day.”

Since 1985, committees in each province and territory have planned, organized, and directed local Canada Day celebrations. These committees are supported by grants from the Department.

 Happy Canada Day

This Canada Day, let us renew our commitment to learning from and listening to one another so that we can overcome the obstacles that divide us, correct past injustices, and build a more just and equitable society for all. Together, we’ll roll up our sleeves and do the hard work required to make Canada a better place.

How is Canada Celebrated?

Despite its modest beginnings, Canada Day has evolved into a full celebration of independence, complete with fireworks, parades, picnics, and barbecues. To many people, Canada Day represents many things, including a fantastic reason to proclaim one’s passion for all things beer. Many people, regardless of musical talent, are inclined to sing the national song, O Canada, during the day. On the other hand, if you chance to be in Quebec on Canada Day, you might not hear much singing due to a large number of moving trucks on the road. The province of Quebec has a long history of requiring the conclusion of rental leases on July 1st.

Quotes of Canada Day

“This year’s Canada Day falls at a moment when we have a lot to be thankful for, and even more to reflect on.” Canadians have survived one of the most difficult eras in our country’s history by looking out for one another. Now that the pandemic is over, we may look forward to restoration to normalcy. With BC’s Restart moving forward with caution, it is safe to reunite with some of our long-lost friends and loved ones.

“This watershed moment was made possible because individuals in British Columbia and around the country banded together for a common goal. Following public health advice and recommendations was the appropriate thing to do for Canadians. To safeguard our families and communities, we made enormous sacrifices. And now, because we share a conviction in science and an understanding that vaccinations are safe and effective, we are being immunized in historic numbers.

While the pandemic has shown us the best of who we are as Canadians, we have just been reminded of the intergenerational pain inflicted by colonialism and the systematic racism that continues to be a living reality for far too many. It is evident that we still have a long way to go to live up to the Canadian ideal and our shared values of fairness, kindness, and generosity.
